Job Overview:
The Network Freight General Manager will oversee and manage ATL's freight network, ensuring operational efficiency, strategic growth, and regulatory compliance. This key leadership role includes managing transportation operations, vendor relations, and route optimisation while leading a team to drive service quality and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Operations Management:
1. Develop and implement strategies to optimise freight operations across multiple locations.
2. Ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation routes and schedules.
3. Coordinate the movement of goods within the network to meet customer delivery expectations.
4. Manage day-to-day operations of the freight network, ensuring high service levels and customer satisfaction.
5. Lead and mentor managers and teams responsible for transportation, logistics, and warehouse functions.
6. Foster a high-performance culture with a focus on continuous improvement, training, and development.
7. Set KPIs and performance targets for the logistics team, ensuring alignment with company goals.
8. Analyse and improve the freight network for better cost control, delivery speed, and sustainability.
9. Implement technology and software tools for route optimisation, load planning, and real-time tracking.
10. Oversee freight consolidation and distribution strategies to maximize efficiency.
Financial & Budgetary Oversight:
1. Develop and manage the department's budget, including freight costs, operational expenses, and capital expenditures.
2. Monitor financial performance and report on key financial metrics such as cost per shipment, budget variance, and profitability.
3. Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising service quality.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
1. Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and legal transport regulations.
2. Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards within freight operations.
3. Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards.
4. Collaborate with the customer service and sales teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods.
5. Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership on network performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Technology & Innovation:
1. Implement and oversee technology systems such as TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and WMS (Warehouse Management Systems).
2. Stay updated on industry trends and innovations to drive digital transformation within the freight network.
Experience Requirements:
1. 3+ years of experience in logistics, freight, or transportation management with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
2. Proven experience in managing a multi-site freight network.
Additional Requirements:
1. Strong knowledge of freight management systems, logistics planning, and transportation software.
2. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
3. Analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on operational efficiency and cost management.
4. Strong negotiation skills for managing carrier and vendor relationships.
5. Knowledge of relevant regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
6. Ability to prioritise tasks and drive results in a dynamic environment.
7. High level of professionalism.
8. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
9. You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by your line manager.
