MAIN PURPOSE:
To ensure the provision of assessment and social care support within a multi-disciplinary setting for people with mental health needs and their carers. To take a professional lead for Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) practice within the team and to take part with other AMHPs on a duty rota. To be a senior member of the Team undertaking the roles commensurate with that position; working to support the team manager whilst offering supervision to social work staff and guidance to more junior members of the team and MDT colleagues.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. To ensure the provision of assessment and support to Adults and their Carers in line with the Care Act 2014, Wellbeing principles, LB Bromley procedures and other relevant legislation.
2. To provide consultation on statutory Care Act 2014 duties within the team.
3. To monitor, review and evaluate care plans in order to ensure that they are meeting the needs of Adults and promote rights and economic wellbeing.
4. Through a strength-based approach, assess and prioritise need to purchase appropriate services with Adults and Carers, in line with Personal Budgets and Direct Payments.
5. Ensure and promote that Adults and Carers are able to represent their views and by providing advocacy, communicators or translators when appropriate.
6. To hold a small caseload concentrating on those with complex care needs.
7. To protect adults at risk by robust assessments and the use of safeguarding procedures with an emphasis on making safeguarding personal.
8. Undertake the safeguarding adult manager role and role of enquiry officer as defined in the Pan London Safeguarding Procedures.
9. To protect the needs of children in line with safeguarding procedures.
10. To provide an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) service in accordance with the 1983 Mental Health Act (amended 2007).
11. To provide a professional lead in the team on AMPH practice issues, i.e. involvement in training and development and dissemination of up-to-date Mental Health Act information.
12. To provide professional supervision to social workers in line with the Supervision policy and the professional regulator (Social Work England) requirements.
13. To undertake responsibility for supporting team initiatives and activities as defined by Line Managers.
14. To act as Practice Educator/Assessor for social work students and Approved Mental Health Professional trainees if not already a qualified practice educator the postholder must be willing to undertake this.
15. To provide an adult social care perspective when assisting in the planning and development of Community Mental Health Services, promoting participation from adults who use the service.
16. To identify and report unmet need and service shortfalls to Line Manager.
17. To ensure that all client records within the sector are maintained in accordance with Council/Trust policies.
18. To support the Team Manager and ensure that the adult social care agenda is included in assessment and considered in response to new referrals and enquiries.
19. To co-ordinate, participate and, where appropriate, chair planning meetings, reviews and case conferences.
20. To participate in multidisciplinary and inter-agency meetings and working groups and to represent the department as required.
21. Contribute to and where possible, resolve complaints in line with the Council and Trust complaints procedure.
22. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the post, as required to ensure the efficient and effective running of the organisation.

Contribute to service development by providing information and ideas for improved and/or more efficient ways of providing a service. Supervise, support and appraise staff in line with the professional role and Trust/Council supervision policy.

KNOWLEDGE:
1. Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of relevant legislation, The Care Act 2014, the Mental Health Act 1983 (Amended 2007) and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. In addition to the aforementioned, a working knowledge of other related legislation and policy that interface the client group, such as the Health and Care Act 2022 and emphasis on partnership working.
2. Demonstrate appropriate understanding, knowledge and skills in valuing diversity.
3. Knowledge of mental health client group and the relevant interface between partnership systems to support and enable recovery.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary setting and social care services for people with mental health problems. Effective supervision of students and/or staff. Have experience of undertaking a wide range of varied and complex mental health work and mental health act assessment scenarios. Experience of supervision of Approved Mental Health Professional and/or Approved Mental Health professional trainees would be an advantage. Experience of working with multi-agency organisations.

5. Degree or equivalent qualification in Social Care
6. Registered with Social Work England
7. Those holding a social work qualification from 2012 onwards must provide evidence of successfully completing an Assessed and Supported Year (ASYE) in employment OR if newly qualified undertake to the ASYE, as part of the councils probationary process.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
To maintain Social Work England registration and adhere to the SW code of practice. Current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance. Must be eligible to work in the UK. To maintain AMHP status, by undertaking appropriate training and continuing professional development. Ability to work across the Borough and beyond if required. Able to work flexible hours if required to do so. The postholder must be willing to be based onsite, as a member of a fully integrated and cohesive team working from home will be by exception only.
