The Role
A new opportunity has arisen for a Dispatcher to join our General Transport team in Washdyke, Timaru. It is a hands-on role so previous experience in the transport industry is desirable. The successful applicant will be responsible for the scheduling and dispatch of general freight trucks consisting of flat decks and curtain siders. Along with ensuring the most efficient use of resources by managing driver’s workload and allocating daily jobs, the dispatcher will also manage relationships with key customers and will be responsible for other general dispatching and office duties.
This is a full-time, permanent position working Monday – Friday dayshift, with the occasional Saturday morning. Some flexibility is required to suit business needs.
Skills and experience
The desirable candidate will:
* Have previous experience in a Dispatch and/or Scheduling role, with a multi-site focus.
* Understanding of loading truck/trailer configurations.
* Dangerous Goods (DG) knowledge required with load plans and the correct loading processes.
* Be Health and Safety focused – with the ability to role-model safe working practices.
* Strong geographical knowledge of the North and South Islands.
* Be an effective communicator (with both internal and external stakeholders e.g., customers, drivers).
* Be comfortable working in a compliant environment and be able to ensure procedures are being followed.
* Be computer literate, manage technology, and efficiently enter data.
* Be able to think on their feet, suggest solutions to challenges, and effectively distribute company-wide and divisional messages.
* Have enthusiasm, great communication skills, and the ability to pick things up quickly.
