An exciting opportunity for a skilled individual with financial experience to join the Board of Sport Resolutions as the organisation continues with its national and international growth and develops and builds upon its existing services.
Sport Resolutions is interested to hear from any individual who meets the INED Role Profile criteria and who believes that they can provide a high-level skillset in support of financial management, governance, business operations and future growth. The successful individual will join a cohesive, diverse and motivated Board of Directors who strive to protect, uphold and develop integrity and trust in all aspects of sports at all levels.
The successful individual will have a passion for sports integrity and the fair resolution of disputes. They will have the necessary skills, experience and reputation to promote the organisation and guide the executive. They will have the ability to form independent opinions, listen and give respect to their fellow directors, and contribute to board discussions and the decision-making process. Directors should discharge their fiduciary duties whilst trusting in the executive team to maintain the high level of service provided to users.
Sport Resolutions has established itself as the independent dispute resolution service of choice for sport. Its skilled and motivated case team appoint individuals from an expert and diverse panel of over 350 individuals to cases such as anti-doping referrals, safeguarding investigations, vetting procedures, selection disputes, mediations, contract-based arbitrations and investigations. Sport Resolutions' clients include NGBs and International Federations such as World Athletics, the International Tennis Federation, the Commonwealth Games, and the International Testing Agency.
The organisation administers the International Hearing Panel, which adjudicates on anti-doping rule violations, the Safeguarding Case Management Programme (SCMP), which provides UK NGBs with access to expert safeguarding and legal support; Sport Integrity, an independent disclosure and complaints service for Olympic and Paralympic sport; and the National Anti-Doping Panel, which is responsible for adjudicating anti-doping disputes in the UK.
The organisation also hosts a series of in-person events and webinars to assist in upskilling the sector and promoting sports integrity. In 2024, Sport Resolutions' Annual Conference was attended by over 300 individuals from the legal and sports sectors.
Person Specification
Essential
1. Commitment to Sport Resolutions and its objectives.
2. The ability to contribute to the growth and development of the organisation.
3. The skill to represent and promote Sport Resolutions to external stakeholders.
4. Experience in at least two of the following areas (obtained in the sports, corporate and/or not for profit sector): finance and resource management, risk management, performance management, governance, information technology, sports administration, national or international sport, sport ethics and welfare.
5. The availability to attend meetings in London and/or online, and represent Sport Resolutions at occasional events, as appropriate (approximate total of 10 days per annum).
Desirable
1. Professional finance qualification.
2. Management and leadership skills.
3. Knowledge of sports structures and sports politics.
4. Experience of organisational development.
5. Experience of various forms of dispute resolution.
6. Previous Board level experience.
7. Pre-existing relationships within the sports sector.
Term and time commitment
The Board of Directors normally meet up to four times each year. Independent Non-Executive Directors may be appointed for a maximum of two terms of four years. Directors may serve on or lead other Sport Resolutions sub-committees, which normally meet in advance of each Board meeting. Current Board sub-committees are: the Panel Appointments and Review Committee (PARC), the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC), and the Marketing and Service Development Committee (MSDC).
