Axcis Education are working in partnership with an SEMH Provision based in Huddersfield. The school is looking for a number of learning and behaviour mentors to join the team on a long-term basis from January. The school caters for a diverse group of learners aged 11-18 with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs and other associated conditions, who have been removed from mainstream education.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and young people with complex needs. We are looking for someone who is able to quickly establish positive working relationships, engage, and inspire!
Responsibilities:
1. Work with students in a small group or 1:1 basis, addressing barriers to learning.
2. Plan and deliver targeted interventions to support students to learn new skills and develop self-esteem.
3. Adjust your register to meet the needs of students with learning and emotional needs.
4. Support students who are in crisis, using a variety of de-escalation techniques.
5. Foster positive working relationships with students, parents, and the wider staff team.
6. Ensure student sessions are recorded and kept up to date, in order to track progress, attendance, engagement, and behaviour.
7. Actively contribute in student review meetings, to ensure that support packages are meeting learner needs.
Requirements:
1. Previous experience supporting students with complex social and emotional needs.
2. Experience using a range of de-escalation techniques to support students in crisis - up to date Team Teach would be highly advantageous.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
