Associate World Editor Location: i Headquarters – London Position: permanent Job Introduction i is looking for an Associate World Editor to join our growing world desk in a senior management role. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to help lead i’s world news coverage, driving differentiated news and sharp analysis that will have maximum digital impact. Reporting into the Foreign Editor, the successful candidate must have an in-depth knowledge of world affairs, alongside an instinct for what interests British readers. They must have proven experience of managing a team of reporters, a demonstrable ability to get challenging stories and investigations over the line and a thorough understanding of digital publishing best practice. Key areas of responsibility To help lead and inspire our world news team, ensuring their output is having maximum digital impact To coordinate and grow i’s network of international freelancers, to further enhance our depth of coverage in key areas To manage a mix of reactive exclusive chases on the agenda, news features and long term investigations To oversee digital publication of strong breaking news, and generate ways to add value where necessary To work towards team benchmarks for success, ensuring the operation is meeting its digital subscription goals To present high impact stories and creative ideas each day to senior editors in conference To help lead planning for major events such as the US election, conflicts and international crises Skills and experience Experience on the world news desk of a national news publisher or international reporting experience A deep knowledge and understanding of major global news, with excellent judgement An ability to write and edit news and features quickly and to deadline Incisive analytical skills and the ability to approach the news agenda in a creative and original manner Excellent people-management skills, and a proven ability to get the best out of experienced journalists Experience of leading a team, and a desire to be leading from the front in a busy and demanding newsroom An ambition to take on more responsibility and progress your career towards executive leadership Experience in digital publishing, and a willingness to learn and embrace new methods of storytelling A commitment to i's editorial standards of impartial and incisive coverage Good knowledge of media law and the Editors’ Code of Practice About US i is Britain's youngest national news publisher – and one of the most trusted. i has a unique mission: publishing non-partisan reporting and intelligent opinion.
