Job Summary for the role:
The post-holder will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.
This pharmacy dispenses to community patients and care homes and the applicant will need to have care home/ dosette experience.
Assist in the preparation, dispensing and sale of prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines/appliances and assist with stock control, ordering and re-stocking of the dispensary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Issuing stock items and prepared prescriptions
2. Labelling and preparing Monitored dosage systems
3. Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements
4. Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage
5. Ensuring that drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions
6. Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record/logbook
7. Cleaning work surfaces and shelving on a regular basis and ensuring that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order.
8. Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.
9. Undertaking other reasonable duties within the framework of the post as directed by the Supervising dispenser.
10. Dispensing and checking repeat prescriptions and prescriptions from surgeries
11. Taking orders for repeats and dealing with queries from district nurses and support staff.
12. Using the computer to keep records up to date.
13. Checking with GPs or in patient records if concerned about the appropriateness of requests for medication.
14. Dealing with queries from patients regarding their prescriptions.
15. Some reception work as required as part of the dispensing process.
16. Handling controlled drugs (and keeping register).
17. Handling prescription money and operating/balancing the till.
18. Assisting when required to meet targets set for the pharmacy
19. Assisting in stock checks
20. Providing health checks to patients, once trained by the pharmacist
21. Delivering medication to patients when required
22. Delivering and collecting prescriptions from GP surgeries when required
23. Organising and taking part in community events and fundraisers
