Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to support the new Lung Cancer Screening Programme (LCS) in County Durham. The purpose of the programme is to enable the early detection of lung cancer in order to save lives.
This is a dynamic role, which requires excellent administrative and coordinative skills to support patients on their journey through the screening service.
This role involves coordinating the pathway for patients who require a review of their low dose CT scan. The SRM coordinator will coordinate the weekly Screening Review Meeting (SRM) and liaise with members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure that patients are appropriately referred for both cancer and non-cancer follow up.
This role will be the key point of contact between the LCS team and Cancer Services as well as other relevant services ensuring the patient journey is tracked appropriately, and managed safely and effectively.
Main duties of the job
1. Work collaboratively within the LCS team to support administration of the programme on a day to day basis. Ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date, accurate, and available to support decision making, reporting exceptional circumstances when needed.
2. Coordinate and participate in weekly SRM at UHND.
3. Ensure all patients requiring discussion are listed in a timely fashion and that all relevant previous imaging has been requested for review.
4. Document outcomes of SRM and action onwards referrals.
5. Conduct compassionate discussions with patients about their care.
6. Ensure follow up imaging is relisted for discussion and management discussions.
7. Manage, book and reschedule patient follow-up CT appointments.
8. Provide ad hoc support of telephone Lung Health Check clinics calling patients to complete a questionnaire to determine risk scoring for lung cancer.

1. Work autonomously in the absence of the Team Lead and program Manager.
2. Use own initiative to plan time effectively and prioritize all incoming work on a daily basis, including responding quickly, appropriately and communicating clearly in relation to urgent / important and unpredictable issues ensuring a high quality administrative service.
3. Coordinate and participate in weekly SRM at UHND, ensuring all patients are listed, discussed and outcome decisions recorded and actioned.
4. Support onward pathways of care for people identified with significant findings by completing appropriate admin tasks.
5. Provide a seamless interface for patients, through effective liaison with other Senior Managers, Clinicians & GP practices.
6. Escalate any concerns raised by patients in line with service specification.
7. Support the management, booking and completion of patient appointments, including telephone Lung Health Checks.
8. Support the team with collection and collation of data to support and evaluate the service.
9. Answer general enquiries from the public regarding the programme.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience
Experience Essential
* Knowledge and experience of handling confidential patient information.
* Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
* Knowledge of medical terminology.
