Job overview
Will be the clinical and managerial lead for the Sexual Health department at Walsall Manor Hospital, taking responsibility for the clinical and budgetary management of the ward/department and the provision of nursing care, while also undertaking clinical duties. Will act as Deputy to the Matron, upholding the values of the Trust and contributing to clinical governance.

Act as a Clinical Nurse / leader to ensure the needs of patients are recognised and met by the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. Act as a point of liaison for multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working to achieve the best possible outcome for patient care, particularly working with Commissioners.
Provide registered nurse support to junior nursing staff. Accountable and responsible for accurate and legible record keeping in accordance with local policies and NMC guidelines. Responsibilities include sexual history taking, genital examination, family planning, and cervical cytology.
Maintain a safe level of nursing staff, taking remedial action and escalating where appropriate. Co-ordinate, in conjunction with the Matron, the selection of staff and monitoring of sickness and absence. Conduct individual performance reviews of staff within the ward/department.
Responsible for maintaining department budgets, ensuring resources are used efficiently and effectively to meet patient needs. May act as a deputy for the Matron when requested. Validate and disseminate any Sexual Health National Targets including the 48-hour access target and the GUM CAD report.
Ensure accurate input into the Sexual Health Computer System, addressing any shortfalls and implementing changes such as Electronic Patient Records.

* STIF course (Sexual transmitted infection foundation course)
* Family Planning Course 901 or equivalent
* Specialist Clinical course or equivalent experience
* Clinical Leadership course or relevant leadership experience

* Evidence of relevant experience in the Specialty of Sexual Health
* Knowledge of managing a Commissioned based service and understanding of public health initiatives
* Able to demonstrate working knowledge of H&S, infection control, and clinical risk management issues
* Must have an understanding of the need to assess the quality of service delivery inclusive of policy generation and audit and benchmarking activity
* Demonstrable, recent experience within specialty at Band 6 or above
* Must be able to participate in the education and development of all staff, providing advice and counsel, and evidence of involvement in training programmes in their current role
