At Big Noise Torry, you will be part of a team that works with children from pre-school, primary school, secondary school, and adults. The team is creative in designing and introducing new ways of learning as we use the orchestra to grow children’s confidence, respect, aspiration, drive, and understanding. As part of the team, you will develop innovative ways to engage children and families, including home visits and community performances. This includes instrumental lessons, general musicianship sessions, and group teaching in our afterschool programme.
We have a vacancy for a Senior Musician/Teacher (Upper or Lower Strings, or General Musicianship) within our team in Big Noise Torry, Aberdeen. As a Senior Musician/Teacher, you will support the Head of Centre by contributing to the shaping of our work in the Torry community, demonstrating best practices in musical delivery, leading trips and events, and taking responsibility for one of the following portfolio areas: learning & teaching, youth voice, priority families, pathways, or community engagement. You will also provide leadership and support for Big Noise Musicians, enabling them to deliver the best outcomes for the children, young people, and community members in the programme.
You will have experience and success in taking on leadership roles and responsibilities, along with experience in problem-solving and working in a dynamic/fast-moving environment. You will also be educated to degree level or hold an equivalent qualification and have professional performing experience. Working with large and varied groups of children and young people is essential, along with a track record of success in teaching children and young people on your specialist instrument. You will also have a belief in the benefits that a social programme such as Big Noise / Sistema Scotland can provide.
This post is offered on a permanent, all year-round basis, working 4.5 days (31.5 hours) per week, Monday to Thursday and Friday morning.
