Job Description:
We are St Helens Borough Council, located in the heart of the Northwest close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire. St Helens is a modernising Council which is passionate and ambitious for the children and families we support, our communities and our workforce. As part of our transformation journey, we continue to build on our progress and put children firmly at the centre of our care. We can only do this because of our highly valued, skilled, and supported workforce.
A Senior Education Welfare Officer post has become available within the Education Welfare Service. The Education Welfare Service is a statutory service that provides high quality professional support to schools, ensuring that parents/carers fulfil their statutory obligation to send their child to school regularly.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is willing to support the service with driving forward change, whilst assisting the LA with the discharge of its statutory obligations in respect of school absence in line with Working Together to Improve school Attendance, including preparation of court files for legal proceedings under the Education Act 1996.
Suitable candidates will have experience in supervising staff with managing their caseloads and will be able to take a lead role in the professional & personal review, support and development of staff from the Education Welfare Service.
There will be an expectation to support the development of Traded Services, by extending and developing strong links between the service and schools.
The suitable candidate will also be able to support Education Welfare Officers and Youth Engagement Officers with a wide range of strategies that support children and families in identifying and removing barriers to good attendance and the causes of persistent absence, by ensuring the child’s voice is taken into account when re-engaging in school.
This Authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Candidates must also possess a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
For informal discussion please contact Helen McCabe - Education Welfare Service 01744 673356.
This post is subject to Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
St Helens Council is a Disability Confident Leader. This means that the Council guarantees an interview to disabled applicants who demonstrate that they meet the essential criteria for the job, as detailed on the Person Specification, and will, for qualifying disabled candidates, make reasonable adjustments within the interview/selection process.
