Job Description: The Construction Estimator will be a key player in estimating project costs and driving business development. This role involves preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects while also pursuing new business opportunities and maintaining relationships with existing clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction estimating and a proven track record in sales.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Analyze project plans, blueprints, and specifications to prepare detailed cost estimates.
2. Gather and assess subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing.
3. Develop comprehensive cost reports and bid proposals for review by project managers and clients.
4. Maintain up-to-date cost databases and historical cost information.
5. Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend alternatives to optimize project budgets.
6. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure accuracy and feasibility of estimates.
7. Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the construction industry.
8. Develop and maintain relationships with potential and existing clients.
9. Present proposals and negotiate contracts to secure new projects.
10. Follow up with clients to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns or issues.
11. Collaborate with the marketing team to develop strategies for attracting new business.
12. Attend industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to promote the company.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
2. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in construction estimating, with a strong understanding of construction costs and processes.
3. Proven track record in sales or business development, preferably in the construction or related industry.
4. Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., ProEst, RSMeans, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite.
5. Excellent analytical, mathematical, and negotiation skills.
Requirements:
DRIVER'S LICENSE AND TRANSPORTATION ARE ESSENTIAL. Most of the work can be done remotely, but occasional travel to job sites will be required. Head office is in Cambridge, Ontario. Occasional travel to this site will be expected. Hours will be M-F, 37.5 hours per week. The company offers a comprehensive benefit plan after a probation period of 3 months.
COMPENSATION: WILL DEPEND UPON EXPERIENCE BUT WILL BE IN THE RANGE OF 55-65k.
