An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Princess Royal Hospital for a full-time Band 6 Pre-Assessment Sister/Charge Nurse within the Endoscopy unit. We are looking for someone who has the motivation, drive, and commitment to help deliver an outstanding endoscopy pre-assessment service at The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals Trust (SATH). You will work as a professional role model, demonstrating flexibility, excellent communication skills, and an ability to lead and work as part of a team. The post holder is expected to be an experienced Endoscopy nurse showing professional & personal development.
* The Post holder will be expected to exhibit specific skills in the management of disorders of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. This will include undertaking telephone/face-to-face assessment, and the education and counselling of patients.
* The post holder will work closely with the whole endoscopy team and the MDT collaboratively.
* The post holder will be responsible for assessing in the delivery of an efficient and effective service for the Trust.
They will lead on the development of the pre-assessment service creating policies and procedures to ensure it is an efficient service for our patients. The post holder will provide support and leadership to the band 5 Endoscopy staff nurses who will rotate into the pre-assessment service.
Main duties of the job
Working collaboratively with the immediate and extended Endoscopy service at both The Royal Shrewsbury and The Princess Royal Hospitals. The post holder will be supported by the Endoscopy Matron, unit managers, Endoscopy operations manager, and clinical lead and will work closely with the Endoscopy sisters, registered nurses, and healthcare assistants. The post holder will have a strong clinical commitment to the Endoscopy service:
* Assisting in the direct delivery and management of the Pre-assessment services.
* Co-ordinating and providing care from the point of access to address the needs of individuals arising as a consequence of referral from the 2-week wait /Endoscopy services.
* Acting as the patient advocate supporting them to navigate and make informed choices at all stages of the processes.
* Promoting health promotion strategies.
* Supporting the team with clinical governance, quality assurance, and quality management systems.
* Ensuring that patient data are collected to meet trust and JAG requirements.
* The ability to evaluate the service and contribute to quality assurance activities.
* Working collaboratively to ensure audit of the service is in line with National Guidelines.
* Exhibit specific skills in the management of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, including undertaking assessment, education, and counselling wherever appropriate.

The Princess Royal Hospital has an established Endoscopy unit with four procedure rooms. The unit currently provides a service for both out-patients and in-patients including the following procedures: Endoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Cystoscopy, PEG insertions, ERCP, and EUS. The unit delivers the Bowel Cancer Screening Service alongside the diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy service to outpatients and inpatients. We are a training unit, training both medical staff and clinical endoscopists. We are committed to supporting your ongoing professional development.

The team works closely with Gastroenterologists, Colorectal surgeons, Clinical Endoscopists, clinical nurse specialists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The unit works together with the Research and Innovation Team as it is involved in many clinical trials.
