OVERVIEW
We are a small person-centred bespoke Learning Disability service providing 24-hour residential care for two young adults who have severe learning disabilities, associated complex needs, and behaviours that challenge. Our service users are supported within every aspect of day-to-day living and require a practical hands-on approach to enable them to have a fulfilling and good quality of life.
We are looking for an additional Team Leader that has the skills and experience to act as delegated authority in the absence of The Registered Manager. You will join a team of three other team leads; however, this remains a “hands-on” position working on a 1:1 basis with all service users, promoting and ensuring holistic support is provided in a proactive manner at all times.
JOB DESCRIPTION
TEAM LEADER
Reports to: Registered Manager
Principal Duties
1. To promote the philosophy of privacy, dignity, independence, choice, rights, and fulfilment for all residents, within a policy of managed risk-taking.
2. Ensure that team members understand and endorse the aims and objectives of the home by guidance, instruction, and practice.
3. Responsibility for clear lines of communication ensuring staff are fully conversant with their duties to include regular team meetings, supervision of staff members.
4. Take appropriate action to remedy any unsatisfactory staff performance, recording any significant action.
5. Ensuring that each service user’s care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs.
6. Keeping accurate records and providing written reports on service users as directed by the manager.
7. Implement a PBS framework for the prevention and management of individuals' behaviour in a non-aversive manner.
8. Enable and support service users to participate in recreation and leisure activities.
9. Continue to develop your own knowledge and practice and be able to be a reflective practitioner.
10. Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post, including practical matters to promote a holistic care package (cooking, cleaning, etc.) and duties that may from time to time be required by the Registered Manager.
11. Attend and contribute to regular supervision sessions in line with the relevant standards.
12. Be willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers.
13. Monitor the conduct of staff and manage staff in a proactive manner.
14. This post requires the holder to do varying shifts, which include early morning and late evening work and night duty. The post holder also is required to work weekends and bank holidays as part of the 24-hour, 365 days a year service cover.
15. On occasions you may be requested to change your rota at a given notice as per your contract, to ensure the contingencies of the service are covered.
16. In accordance with the guidelines on Health and Safety, to accept responsibility for working within these guidelines and reporting any concerns to the Registered Manager. Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them.
17. This post requires the holder to have a clear DBS check at all times. Changes to personal circumstances which may affect this must be notified to your line manager immediately.
Management Responsibilities:
1. Understand contents of fire folder and fire procedures in the Home. Support the Manager in ensuring that regular fire drills and training are carried out and recorded.
2. Understand the employer/employee requirements of Health and Safety legislation and support the Manager in ensuring compliance and training updates. Ensure own practice is updated in Emergency first aid, Food Hygiene.
3. Understand Infection Control Policy and support the Manager and the designated Infection Control Link Person in ensuring compliance.
4. Understand the requirements of good housekeeping and report concerns through the appropriate channels.
5. Understand the organisation's Medication Policy, administer drugs, and ensure secure control and storage. Address medication errors and report to Management.
6. Refer concerns and difficulties to Manager as appropriate.
7. Ensure efficient management of the Home.
8. Promote good relations with local community, family members, and professionals.
General Requirements:
1. Take responsibility for the safeguarding of adults and follow the organisation's whistleblowing policy as required.
2. Participation in staff meetings.
3. Participation in training activities.
4. Participation in staff supervision and personal development review.
5. Take responsibility for personal development by keeping abreast of developments in Learning Disability.

Person Specification:
Experience:
* Experience of working with service users with a learning disability at a senior level in a residential setting.
* Experience of care work at a senior level.
* Experience of working proactively with service users who present with challenging behaviours.
Qualifications or Training:
* Health and social work qualification at level three is essential and willingness to work towards level five if not already achieved.
Practical Skills:
* An ability to effectively engage, sustain, and disengage with service users and their families.
* An ability to develop productive working relationships between workers, the local community, and other agencies.
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to produce a variety of information to aid decision making.
* An ability to provide for the day-to-day care needs of service users.
* Supervisory skills, Recording skills.
* Ability to work effectively within a structured programme.
* Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual and support colleagues.
* Understand and promote non-aversive behaviour management.

* This post includes day shifts, waking night shifts as well as weekend work. We are not able to work around other employment or university hours. Are you available for all aspects of the rota system? The role also requires willingness to access a hydrotherapy pool with our service users on a regular basis.
* The role prefers applicants to hold a clean UK driving licence for a minimum of 5 years for insurance purposes. This is to drive service users to activities and appointments etc in the company car.
