Job summary We are recruiting for a Nutrition Clinical Nurse Specialist who shares our vision to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. This post is designed to perform a key role in the delivery of a high-quality patient nutrition service based at Lister Hospital. You will be an integral member of the team and will have a key role in overseeing the strategy and implementation of best nutritional care for the patients within the Trust. Clinically this post is integrated with the nutrition team consisting of a consultant gastroenterologist, dietician and the nutrition clinical nurse specialist. The service aims to identify patients with nutritional problems, in particular those who need enteral or parenteral feeding support. Main duties of the job Provision of care through screening programmes, nurse-led clinics, accepting referrals, undertaking diagnostic procedures, undertaking therapeutic procedures, physical assessments and obtaining written consent to treatment. Carrying a caseload, and responsibility for the management of complex cases. Be a clinical expert in assessment of nutritional needs and delivery of treatment Coordinate the Nutrition Support Team (NST) with nursing care in general Develop safe and practical nursing techniques with respect to nutrition policy Provide advanced technical skills in relation to NG/NJ feeding and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG); liaising with services for radiologically inserted gastrostomy (RIG) and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC). Advise on nutrition support policy and coordinate strategy including issues regarding risk management and ethical decision making To provide clinical advice to all staff within the multidisciplinary team To maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, and report on all procedures, ensuring that copies are received by referring clinicians and GP's.
