Job Description
The Section Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the on-site cleaning team to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and waste management across the site/campus. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that the daily operations of the warehouse run smoothly by minimizing disruptions caused by cleanliness or waste-related issues, while strictly adhering to health & safety guidelines, cost controls, and legal compliance.
The role requires close collaboration with the Facilities, Automation, and Operations teams to ensure the site is maintained to a high standard. The primary focus will be managing technical and warehouse cleaning operations, ensuring waste management is effective, and implementing efficient processes to maintain facility cleanliness. The ideal candidate will lead and inspire the team to deliver exceptional service while continuously driving improvements in cleaning standards and operational efficiency.
* Team Leadership & Management: Lead, motivate, and manage the on-site cleaning team to ensure the smooth operation of cleaning services across the warehouse and site. Oversee staff performance, provide guidance, and offer support to ensure operational efficiency and team well-being.
* Operational Efficiency: Plan, schedule, and coordinate all cleaning activities in line with business requirements, ensuring minimal disruption to warehouse operations. Collaborate with Automation, Operations, and Facilities teams to deliver a seamless cleaning service.
* Compliance & Safety: Ensure all cleaning operations comply with health & safety regulations, company policies, and legal requirements. Conduct regular inspections to maintain compliance and high cleanliness standards.
* Waste Management: Oversee and manage all waste separation, removal, and disposal processes within the site. Implement efficient waste management systems and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to drive sustainability and cost efficiency.
* Resource & Stock Management: Monitor and control the stock levels of cleaning materials, PPE, and consumables. Ensure timely replenishment and manage contracts for specialist cleaning equipment.
* Budget & Cost Control: Manage the budget and control costs related to cleaning operations, ensuring efficient use of resources while maintaining high-quality standards.
* Training & Development: Support the training and upskilling of team members to enhance their capabilities, ensuring they are equipped with the right skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
* Project Involvement: Participate in cross-functional projects that require cleaning support, particularly in high-risk or hard-to-access areas within automation zones.
* Quality Control: Conduct regular spot-checks to ensure cleaning standards are consistently met. Address any areas of improvement and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
* Scheduling & Planning: Manage shift rotas, holiday planning, and team coverage to ensure continuous service delivery across the warehouse facility.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure that cleaning services are delivered efficiently and in line with business expectations.
* Incident Response: Act as a key point of contact in the event of cleaning or hygiene-related incidents, ensuring a prompt and effective response to minimize operational disruption.
Qualifications
* Strong leadership and team management skills.
* Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
* Knowledge of health & safety regulations in a warehouse or industrial setting.
* Experience in managing budgets and controlling costs.
* Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (Facilities, Operations, Automation).
* Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
* Commercial awareness and understanding of operational impact.
* High attention to detail with a passion for maintaining high cleanliness standards.
* Ability to operate and oversee technical/specialist cleaning in high-risk and hard-to-access areas.
