Entity: Production & Operations Job Family Group: Engineering Group Job Description: The Distillation and Separations Advisor provides technical leadership and expertise for production and refining assets, with a focus on all aspects of distillation and separator performance within P&O. The role will support various refining and production processes involving distillation, absorption, and separations, bringing extensive knowledge of related issues across different procedures. Additionally, the Advisor should have a robust background in providing technical and operational support for CDU’s and VDU’s, which are crucial processing units centered around distillation. The role involves delivering technical leadership, offering advice, mentorship, and direction on S&OR and business risk, and guiding the use of separations technology to support commercial and strategic initiatives aligned with site-specific long-term asset strategies and business improvement plans. The Advisor sets standards for work practices, promotes adherence to best practices, and supports skill development and technology awareness for junior engineers and operations staff through coaching, training, and mentoring. They also represent bp in industry forums, promoting industry standards and introducing leading ideas into practice within the business.This role also holds accountability for formalising and presenting knowledge to improve understanding, document critical business risks, and suggest potential mitigations. The Advisor will participate in and support Asset TAR preparations and execution, particularly those related to CDU/VDU’s, and provide internal inspection support and recommendations on tower internals installations/findings. Strong process simulation skills are crucial for the Advisor, as this strength is applied and promoted in both distillation and separator work for optimisation, troubleshooting, and design. Maintaining connections with industry contacts and other bp technical specialists will be crucial in building a professional network. There is a need to develop and maintain safety, design, and good practice standards for separator and tower internals applications and the role holder must stay ahead of advancements in these technologies. Responsibilities; Offer technical assurance and consultancy for all distillation and separator aspects of capital projects, including design selection and implementation. Assist P&O locations with project benefits justification and resource needs. Ensure quality assurance of tower/separator internals during TARs and shop testing. Sponsor the Separations SDN for crude unit engineering teamwork across bp refineries. Provide expert advice on optimizing existing tower and separator performance via process simulation, and lead workshops to identify investment opportunities. Lead Margin Improvement Projects and cross-discipline reviews. Stay informed on new developments, competitor efforts, and contractor performance. Coordinate content updates and the application of RM GP 47-0007 safety requirements for CDU and VDU operations. Manage ETPs and GNs on separators, including documents EP-GP 47-31, GN 47-031, GN 47-033, and GN 47-201. Coordinate with refineries to ensure adequate resources and expertise. Deliver technical training on distillation and separator technology, and develop required materials. Collaborate with major vendors and consortia to represent BP Refining interests. Maintain the company's Knowledge Management system for distillation, including the Distillation Handbooks, Team SharePoint site, and Separations e-Clips forum.
