National Grid is hiring a Chapter Director, Infrastructure Automation Engineering for our IT & Digital department. This is a hybrid role based in Warwick.
About The Role
This position will be responsible for leading and managing a collaborative, cross-functional group of infrastructure automation engineering professionals. Your key roles and responsibilities will include:
Establishing the right standards:
1. Define and communicate expected practices and guardrails for infrastructure automation engineering.
2. Adapt practices to align with the maturity level and strategic objectives of the organization.
3. Ensure alignment with National Grid's future state blueprint and roadmap.
4. Collaborate with business leaders to develop practices tailored to unique business situations.
Develop the right skills:
1. Map expected competencies & certifications against each role & level in the Chapter.
2. Design career paths including performance expectations and promotion criteria.
3. Partner with Learning and Development teams to design targeted training & certification curriculum.
4. Operationalize periodic skill surveys to assess training gaps.
5. Define objective processes to assess member skills.
Deliver the right capacity:
1. Track supply and aggregate demand for Chapter resources.
2. Collaborate with leadership to allocate Chapter members to impactful Teams.
3. Facilitate career moves across Chapters for growth & cross-training.
4. Manage workforce supply/demand based on collaboration with Platform Leads.
5. Develop a recruiting strategy for Chapter members.
Manage / deliver for internal and external stakeholders:
1. Demonstrate expertise in all areas of development and innovation in Chapter domain.
2. Ensure stakeholders know what resources are available to them.
3. Identify and define Chapter OKRs in collaboration with Platform Leads.
4. Foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the infrastructure automation engineering community.
5. Develop and promote frameworks to standardize infrastructure architecture.
6. Arrange workshops and training programs to enhance team skills.
About You
1. Significant experience in leading cross-functional teams in infrastructure automation engineering.
2. Proficiency in developing infrastructure automation solutions in Azure or AWS.
3. Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
4. Experience with automating management of user accounts within Active Directory.
5. Proficiency in managing and automating Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
6. Strong background in cloud networking approaches.
7. Understanding of software engineering best practices relevant to infrastructure automation.
8. Experience working in Agile methodologies such as SAFE, Scrum, or Kanban.
More Information
A competitive salary between £85,000 – £105,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance, and a competitive contributory pension scheme. You will also have access to flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan and matched charity giving.
