A Norfolk-based innovator develops advanced electric drive systems, replacing traditional mechanical and hydraulic systems with efficient, sustainable technology for the off-highway sector.
The Role:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is an integral member of the mechanical team responsible for delivering development projects of varying size and complexity relating to electric motors and their drive systems. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for mechanical elements of the design under the direction of the Lead Mechanical Engineer. They will focus on the detailed design of electric motor controller components, including material selection, 3D CAD design, technical drawings and all relevant tasks associated. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will support the Lead Mechanical Engineer and Chief Technical Officer.

Key Responsibilities:
* Design products in accordance with customer requirements, company processes, and engineering standards.
* Develop CAD models and technical drawings with appropriate tolerances and GD&T.
* Refine technical part and assembly drawings to verify functionality and design intent.
* Research and evaluate new materials and manufacturing methods.
* Maintain and update release packages, design history files, and related process activities.
* Conduct engineering studies such as DFMEA, tolerance analysis, manual calculations, and FEA studies.
* Develop mathematical models and validate them through testing.
* Optimize designs for cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
* Ensure adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards.
* Occasional overseas travel may be required.
* Perform other relevant duties as required by management.
* High-quality mechanical designs and drawings meeting internal and external standards.
* Compliance with QHSE requirements.
* Creation of effective methods, work instructions, and risk assessments.
* Coordination of test equipment and resources in alignment with project priorities.
Key Skills & Experience:
* BEng/BSc or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
* Experience designing traction motors for automotive or off-road applications.
* Proven product development experience from concept to production.
* Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks) for modeling and drawing.
* Experience with motor calculations/simulations (ANSYS Maxwell).
* FEA analysis experience using ANSYS.
* Knowledge of compliance with UKCA, CE directives, and international standards.
* Experience with structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis tools is advantageous.
