Job overview
This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the Microbiology Department as a Medical Secretary. The Microbiology laboratory is located on the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital site and provides an extensive service to the two acute hospitals, smaller local hospitals and to GPs in Gloucestershire and South Worcestershire.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be reliable, enthusiastic, motivated and forward-thinking. They will demonstrate good interpersonal skills and must be a team player.
The secretarial team provides support for the six Consultant Microbiologists and senior laboratory staff. Key duties include:
1. Diary and email management for the medical staff
2. Dealing with telephone enquiries
3. Meetings support
4. General clerical tasks
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Educated to GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy
* NVQ level three in administration or equivalent experience with appropriate years’ experience in a hospital or office environment
* IT experience of Microsoft Office packages
* Excellent, professional telephone manner
* Proven organisational skills
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Good interpersonal skills
* Ability to work flexibly within a team
Person specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE (Grade C) or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English
* NVQ (Level 3) in Administration
Experience
* Previous secretarial experience
* Use of MS Office packages and databases
* Experience of working in a hospital / NHS environment
Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge and awareness of health and safety and risk management
* Proven organisation and time management skills
* Able to use MS Teams for managing meetings
