In conjunction with consultant surgeons, consultant anaesthetists, theatre coordinator, and medical secretaries across sites to ensure elective day case/inpatient pathways are managed appropriately and lists are consistently booked with maximum utilisation, in a timely fashion to ensure no patient cancellations are received on the day of surgery and national targets are met.
Main duties of the job
1. To work with the waiting list team manager to select patients for surgery based on waiting times and agreed parameters e.g. case mix, equipment, and bed availability.
2. To report requests to cancel individual cases or entire theatre lists/clinics to supervisors and if this cannot be prevented, to undertake the cancellation of clinics and theatre lists. This will involve contacting the patients and rescheduling their operation/appointment within the necessary timescale.
Job responsibilities
1. Undertake routine validation of waiting lists to ensure only patients who require an appointment or an operation are actively waiting.
2. To confirm with patients dates and times for appointments.
3. To utilise Myrddin and theatre systems as required.
4. To follow procedure to review any lapsed dates of appointments and action accordingly.
5. To review patient pathways and update in accordance with guidelines ensuring treatment times are measured accurately.
Person Specification
Education And Training
* Good standard of education. RSA/OCR III or equivalent knowledge and experience.
* ECDL, or equivalent qualification or experience in the following Microsoft office packages - Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Experience
* Appropriate experience of working within a hospital and/or office environment.
* Significant experience of dealing with the public.
* Experience of working in NHS or similar organisation.
Skills
* Good communication and interpersonal skills. Good organisational skills and ability to multitask.
* Must be able to work under pressure with frequent interruptions. Must have the ability to work alone and as part of a team.
* Confidentiality & diplomacy. Being able to determine priorities. Working to tight deadlines.
* Experience of case note tracking system.
* Familiarity with the Health Board Myrddin System.
