Job Overview
The Psychological Health Practitioner (PHP) Service in Wales provides mental health support within Primary Care settings across Gwent. PHPs work within GP practices as part of multi-disciplinary teams to offer care based on local needs. As a PHP Supervisor, you will manage service quality, offer case management and clinical supervision, and help develop the service by identifying and addressing local clinical needs. You will collaborate with GP cluster leads, third-sector organisations, and statutory mental health services.
Candidates should have a postgraduate diploma or equivalent in evidence-based therapies (HIT/CBT). Experience in psychological assessments, intervention formulation, risk & safeguarding management, and supervision is required.
Informal discussions are encouraged for potential applicants to learn more about the unique nature of the role and the service, and how it differs from similar services across Wales and the UK.
A passion for improving mental health is essential, and the role offers flexibility, including remote work with occasional office visits. You will receive support from leadership and colleagues committed to the service's success. While connected to local Primary Care networks, you'll also be part of the broader Primary Care Mental Health Support Service (PCMHSS), fostering collaboration and belonging.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide professional and clinical supervision to a team of PHPs working across Gwent in general practice. This will include weekly individual case management supervision to ensure safe and appropriate practice and fortnightly group clinical supervision for PHPs across a number of Neighbourhood Care Networks (NCNs), to address clinical development needs.
The PHP supervisor will also line manage PHPs and will provide regular line management meetings to monitor PHP wellbeing and development needs, as well as support the PHP in management-related matters arising within surgeries.
The PHP Supervisor will also be responsible for managing and allocating PHP resources as needed, and within budgetary constraints, across their borough; this will be supported by service leadership.
As part of the leadership of the service, the PHP Supervisor will regularly meet with service leadership and other Supervisors to discuss themes identified by PHPs, identify challenges and opportunities for the service, provide training for PHPs, and make recommendations regarding the development of the PHP service.
