We have the sheer pleasure in supporting Sonny, a male in his late teens living at Penny Farthing in New Milton.
Sonny lives with three other residents, two male and one female. Penny Farthing is a Victorian style tudor home with ample outdoor space, wonderful for activities!
Pay:
£11.10 per hour, increasing to £11.50 after you have successfully completed your probation.
The role:
Sonny has 2:1 support seven days a week. He is partially verbal and communicates through some speech, body language, gestures, and we are currently working on PECs and picture images. Sonny loves all things food-related; he is really adventurous with trying new things!
The most important foods are chocolate cake and hula hoops to name a few (who wouldn't agree!). Sonny is gluten and dairy free, although this doesn't hold him back from enjoying his 'fish and chip' Fridays.
On a typical day, Sonny loves attending the local gym in Christchurch, swimming at Littledown, swinging for hours on his swing either in the garden or at the park, and forest walks at Moors Valley.
We are working really hard to ensure a smooth transition to adulthood from a children's setting. The sorts of things we are trying to achieve currently are later bedtime routine, activities, freedom to make decisions for himself, and aiding him to lead his life with as much independence as possible.
A support worker's day would include:
* Sharing your skills and life knowledge with the people we support to enable good life skills and independence when living in the community
* Maintaining consistent and accurate records regarding care plans, finances, appointments, and medication
* Following the support plan in place for each person we support to enable the person to feel comfortable and happy, adapting this as required based on changes in behaviour
* Providing some elements of personal care from personal hygiene prompts, helping to bathe and wash, medication
Due to some of Sonny's needs, this role would really suit someone who has worked in complex care previously. Our ideal person would be very warm and engaging, patient, and empathetic.
Drivers with access to their own car for work is essential. We are unable to accommodate anyone who does not drive.
We deliver a 24/7 service and have various full and part-time hours available to suit your needs. To support Sonny's package, the hours would ideally be within 8am - 4pm or 4pm - 10pm, and you could work one sleep-in a week between Monday – Sunday.
