Job Summary
The Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic (HMDN) laboratory in Nottingham is a regional centre for the diagnosis and monitoring of haematological malignancies. Based within Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust, we provide specialist diagnostic services to healthcare providers across the East Midlands and beyond.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist to join our expert team consisting of scientific, administrative and medical staff. We utilise a comprehensive range of diagnostic techniques, including flow cytometry and morphological analysis, to deliver accurate and timely results. This role is critical in identifying and classifying haematological malignancies and guiding clinicians to make informed decisions for patient treatment and monitoring.

Main Duties of the Job
The Main Duties Of The Job Will Include:
1. Immunophenotyping Laboratory - Working independently and as part of a team to perform flow cytometry testing within the Immunophenotyping lab. This includes sample preparation, instrument setup, data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results, troubleshooting technical issues, and supporting senior staff in the day-to-day running of the lab.
2. Quality Management - Supporting the laboratory's quality management system will be a key aspect of the role. This will include performing internal audits, maintaining and updating laboratory documentation (SOPs), managing equipment, and recording and investigating laboratory incidents.
3. Training & Development - Participating in the training and mentoring of junior staff, students, and visitors to the laboratory.
4. Service Development - Contributing to the development and implementation of new techniques, technologies, and workflow optimisations to enhance service efficiency and diagnostic capabilities.
The HMDN department is open 08:00-18:00 Monday-Friday and the post holder will be expected to participate in a rota to cover these hours. With future departmental expansions, weekend working may also be required.

Qualifications
Training and Qualifications Essential:
* Completion/close to completion of the IBMS registration portfolio for the certificate of competence.
* HCPC registration or working towards HCPC registration within the next 6 months.
* IBMS Accredited Biomedical Science degree (or completion of top-up modules).
* Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education/training/relevant CPD.
Experience Essential:
* Experience working within a Clinical Laboratory in a healthcare setting.
* Knowledge of appropriate laboratory techniques, including Flow Cytometry and Morphological staining.
* Able to demonstrate competency in appropriate laboratory techniques.
* Awareness of the laboratory quality processes.
Desirable:
* Experience of flow cytometry within a clinical setting.
* Awareness of method development and new technologies.
