Description Volunteers are vital in helping to ensure that our hospices run effectively. We are looking for volunteers to support with the day to day running of the hospice as well as providing a welcoming environment for our patients and their families. Could you support our Hospice on a Saturday or Sunday during visiting hours, either from 10am to 2pm or 2pm to 6pm? Your help would make a meaningful difference during these times. What we need you to do Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks: Greet all visitors and patients in a caring and professional way, in line with security requirements. Taking deliveries and notifying relevant staff. Handle incoming phone calls politely and taking and relaying messages where appropriate. Maintain confidentiality regarding patient details and hospice records. Escorting visitors to different areas of the hospice. Help with other related tasks when necessary. In addition to the above, you will be required to communicate the arrival of patients and relatives to staff on the IPU. Support patients and families with transport requirements eg Booking taxis. What skills or experience do you need? Good people skills – friendly outgoing and confident. Good computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and databases Good communication and organisational skills Clear and polite phone manner Good literacy and numeracy A commitment to high standards and the provision of excellent service A reliable and responsible attitude An understanding of the importance of confidentiality Empathy and an understanding of the needs of those affected by end-of-life care issues.
