Divisional Lead Pharmacist for Haematology

Are you an experienced pharmacist with the knowledge and skills to develop highly specialist pharmacy services in haematology? If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join the pharmacy team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced clinical pharmacist to lead a team of pharmacists and technicians and be responsible for supervising and overseeing the pharmacy haematology service, implementing new developments and ideas whilst ensuring that current and future professional standards are achieved.
The Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) clinical pharmacy team comprises of approximately 20 pharmacists and four medicines management technicians working across a range of specialties including adult haematology and oncology, teenagers and young adults, bone marrow transplant and Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies. The haematology service also supports patients with non-malignant haematological disorders such as ITP, TTP and haemoglobinopathies.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
* Lead and strategically develop a high level, expert clinical pharmacy service in the speciality of adult and TYA haematology, including transplant and immune effector cell therapies.
* Practice as an independent prescriber within a multi-disciplinary team, optimising patient outcomes and improving the patient experience.
* Provide expert pharmaceutical care to haematology patients, involving liaison with medical, nursing, pharmacy and other healthcare staff, and with patients and their carers with regards to medicine related issues.
* Oversee the implementation of new therapies, for example via NICE technology appraisals, Early Access to Medicines Schemes or haematology treatments funded by the Cancer Drugs Fund.
* Act as a role model for haematology clinical pharmacy practice locally, regionally and nationally.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or clinical oncology/haematology, or equivalent level of knowledge and experience in adult cancer.
* Supplementary/Independent Prescriber registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Knowledge and Experience
* Recent experience of working at an advanced level (Band 8a or equivalent) in a Clinical Pharmacy specialty.
* Experience of providing a clinical pharmacy service to adult cancer patients, preferably Haematology patients.
* Experience of influencing other senior professionals, including senior pharmacists, consultant medical staff and divisional managers.
* Knowledge of the legal and regulatory frameworks for the dispensing, prescribing, storage and administration of medicines.
* Experience and evidence of protocol development.
* Audit/R&D experience.
* Experience of training/teaching/supervising other professionals.
* Experience of line managing staff.
* Experience of analysing and advising on drugs budgets, and providing other medicines related financial information to clinical and non-clinical staff.
Skills and Abilities
* Ability to influence and negotiate with other senior healthcare professionals and key stakeholders (internal service and external / regional / national level).
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, verbal and written.
* Skills for analysing highly complex drug and patient information in a specialist field, in order to provide advice where information may be lacking and opinion differs.
* Ability to analyse, communicate and debate complex pharmaceutical issues at management team level in the Divisions of Specialised Services and Diagnostics and Therapy (pharmacy).
* Knowledge and awareness of current key issues pertaining to haematology e.g. NICE Technology Appraisal Guidance, the Cancer Strategy, developments in cancer treatment.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Working knowledge of cancer chemotherapy and supportive treatments.
* Able to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
* Time management skills including ability to prioritise and manage own workload and that of others.
* Good IT skills - ability to accurately build and produce documentation using Microsoft Office and other relevant specialist software.
