Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Out Patient Antimicrobial Therapy Team (OPAT) based at St Jamess University Hospital. We are a small team of clinical nurse specialists and are looking for 1 innovative, enthusiastic and dedicated Band 5 nurse who possesses excellent interpersonal and IT skills to join us. We are expanding our service to benefit more patients and reduce their length of stay in hospital. The OPAT team provide an excellent standard of care for patients predominately receiving outpatient intravenous therapy which improves the patients experience, reduces unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitates early safe discharge. We assess and monitor our patients antibiotic therapies and their bloods from our clinic based in Union House at St. James Hospital and as part of our OPAT virtual ward. Main duties of the job The service runs 7 days a week 365 days of the year service between the hours of 7:30am-17:30pm Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm Saturday and Sunday. The team work closely with the CIVAS (Community Intravenous Administration Service) team to provide antimicrobial therapy in the patients own home and through the clinics based in Union House at St James Hospital. You will be required to support the Band 6 and 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to:- Manage, co-ordinate and prioritise a caseload of patients requiring IV therapy within the OPAT Virtual ward Administer a wide range of antimicrobial therapys to patients who come to Union House for treatment. Assist in the development and delivery of competency based training and the education of patients within the specialist field of IV Therapy You will act as a resource for patients, nursing and medical colleagues, and actively participate in further development and expansion of the service within the Trust.
