Job Description
We are currently looking for a talented Lead Developer who will be developing software to perform PRT pension administration calculations for the business. Development is primarily in C# but in addition to having an extensive C# development background, the role holder may also work with other technologies including Java, C++, Python, VBA, and shell scripts.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for contributing to and maintaining code against specification, working alongside senior actuaries to understand pension methodology and translate this into a feature-driven product.
What you'll be doing:
1. Working closely with the existing developers to ensure new development is compatible with existing functionality from both a design and best practice standpoint and leave no key person risk in the team.
2. Working closely with the product manager, business actuaries, and architects to develop robust, production-quality code.
3. Engaging in peer code reviews and work constructively to continually improve the code base; provide continual improvement to the systems.
4. Providing value throughout the entire software development lifecycle; analyse system operational processes to determine where software development will aid automation and reduce operational and model risk.
5. Delivering full unit test coverage of code, driving and owning system tests where appropriate, and driving business testing. Work collaboratively with the entire product team and not in isolation.
Qualifications: Who we're looking for:
1. Experience building financial engineering systems using bespoke software solutions, with validation of results, preferably in the pensions and annuity area.
2. Provision of designs and assistance with requirements gathering for analytics and cash flow modelling functionality.
3. C# software development experience and coding skills, open source libraries, C++, JAVA, VBA, Python, GUI design and/or development an advantage.
4. In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel (experience with XLW or xlWings an advantage).
5. Expert knowledge of software development in analytical and model risk scenarios.
6. Proven ability to address and use initiative to deliver solutions to technical and business problems.
7. Proven experience in software or database systems development/support with experience of project life cycles and complex product installation, customization, and commissioning – as well as validation testing.
8. Capacity to estimate, manage own work, and keep within plan.
9. Experience with Continuous Delivery toolkit; Source control, issue management software (Subversion, JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
10. Experience with Windows and Linux development environments and tooling.
