GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Autism Support Worker to join a school in Boscombe. This rewarding role involves supporting students with autism, helping them navigate their learning and social experiences in a structured and nurturing environment.
As an Autism Support Worker, you will provide tailored assistance to students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), enabling them to develop essential life skills and progress academically while ensuring their emotional and sensory needs are met.
Responsibilities of an Autism Support Worker (ASC Support Worker):
* Offer one-to-one and small-group support to students with autism.
* Assist in implementing personalised learning and behaviour plans.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other staff to create an inclusive learning environment.
* Use various communication strategies, such as PECS or Makaton, to support students’ needs.
* Encourage social interaction and engagement in classroom activities.
* Help students manage sensory sensitivities and emotional regulation.
* Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and parents.
* Foster a safe, supportive, and positive school experience for students.
Requirements for an Autism Support Worker:
* Experience working with children or young people with autism as an Autism Support Worker is desirable.
* A background in psychology, special education, or a related field is advantageous.
* A calm, patient, and understanding approach to supporting students.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to adapt and use creative strategies to engage students with varying needs.
