This exciting opportunity involves working with children who have a range of special educational needs, including Autism, sensory impairment, social, emotional, physical, and challenging behaviour across both primary and secondary schools. Role Overview: As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting students on an individual and group basis, ensuring they have access to a tailored and inclusive education. Your role will be key in helping to nurture their academic, social, and emotional development while creating a positive and safe learning environment. Key Responsibilities: Support children with Autism, sensory impairments, social, emotional, physical needs, and challenging behaviour. Work closely with teaching staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personalised learning strategies. Help manage behaviour using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement strategies. Promote independence, social interaction, and communication skills in students. Assist with activities and lessons that engage students and meet their specific learning needs. Support students in the development of essential life skills both inside and outside the classroom. Foster a nurturing and safe environment, helping students feel valued and respected. Monitor student progress, provide feedback, and work collaboratively with teachers and parents. Contribute to the overall school ethos of inclusivity, safety, and personal growth. Essential Skills & Qualifications: Previous experience working with children with special educational needs. A strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, sensory impairments, and a range of social, emotional, and physical needs. Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help children overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team. Strong behaviour management skills, with experience in using positive strategies to support challenging behaviours. A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check or willingness to undergo one. Desirable Skills: Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems. Experience in supporting students with complex social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Why Join Affinity Workforce?
