The Facilities department at Dorset County Hospital are excited to announce that we are looking for Security Officers to join our brand new team providing a 24/7 Security Service throughout the hospital.
A background in Security is desirable but not essential as full training in security within a health care setting will be given.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a security presence throughout all areas of the hospital in order to deliver a polite, efficient, and compassionate service to patients, visitors and staff at all times.
* Provide a first line quick and immediate response to distressed, violent and aggressive persons (including mental health patients) within the hospital, calming individuals using verbal and non-verbal communication skills, where necessary physically restraining and escorting persons from site in order to maintain a safe environment within the hospital.
* Appropriately operate CCTV in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Trust license for the detection and prevention of crime, where required.
* To undertake checks on every shift to ensure that all CCTV equipment is fully operational and that any faults are reported immediately to the Facilities department by email or phone.
* Undertake physical patrols of the hospital site in line with schedule and in order to provide a security presence and maintain a secure environment including checking closure departments.
* Undertake external patrols to all areas of the Hospital site including car parking areas and outlying buildings ensuring that your presence is noticeable.

Person Specification
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
* GCSE or Similar for writing English Language
* To have, or be willing to, undertake appropriate training courses to obtain relevant qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* Knowledge of working to legislative compliance.
* General Knowledge of training in Health & Safety at Work.
* Previous Experience of working in Security.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Good communication skills, require a professional and sympathetic approach to people.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally with a wide range of people.
* To have the mental ability and confidence to make effective decisions whilst working in pressured, stressful and difficult situations.
* Ability to work under pressure often unsupervised and prioritise your duties.
* Good IT skills, MS Office Suite, and other related FM software systems.
* Familiar with or willing to undertake training in CCTV operation, intruder alarm systems, radio communication skills.
* Adopts a team-oriented approach, able to work across organisation boundaries and interested and supportive of the work of colleagues.
