Brief Description
As a Civils, Geo, Electrical or Mechanical Year in Industry student at Network Rail, you are committing to a 12-month placement within the regional Engineering & Asset Management Team. You will be part of a cohort of graduate engineers, industrial placement students and other year in industry students all managed in one team. You will support the wider regional business and assist in the management assets within the organisation. From historic bridges and tunnels to our state-of-the-art signalling centre, this is an opportunity to put your engineering skills into practice in an environment where modern technology meets Victorian engineering. If you excel during your placement there is an opportunity to secure a conditional offer onto the Network Rail Graduate scheme following your final year of undergraduate study.
About the role (External)
1. Support the application of the asset management processes in accordance with functional policy to achieve financial and output targets.
2. Assist with the climate adaptation team to develop plans in response to the changing climate on our railway to ensure that the railway is fit for the future and able to operate safely and reliably for our passengers.
3. Schedule examinations, inspections, monitoring and assessment of assets and the evaluation of the reports in accordance with policy, systems, and standards.
4. Specify and prioritise actions to address defects and other issues raised in the reports, in accordance with standards and, for inclusion in work plans.
5. Undertake engineering analysis and risk assessments of assets or asset components to support the asset management process and scheme development, including business cases and whole life cost analysis.
6. Provide support to the specification and development of enhancement schemes and manage the interface with network capability programmes.
7. Maintain asset data and information within the company systems and processes.
8. Provide engineering support and participate in investigations of incidents relating to assets.
9. Monitor the technical development of projects, determining whether the proposed works are appropriate, correctly interpreted and any changes are agreed. Assist with the approval in principle of designs and support acceptance of detailed designs.
Essential
· Working towards an engineering bachelor’s degree
· Good communication skills both in person and virtually (Email/Microsoft Teams)
· Enthusiasm to learn about asset management
· Shows initiative and takes opportunities to fully utilise time on placement
Desirable
· Knowledge of engineering policies and standards
· An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
