The Cancer Services Data Quality Co-Ordinator is an integral part of the Cancer Services team and will work closely with the Cancer Services Quality Manager to ensure the Trust's mandated data reporting requirements comply with NHS England regulatory and quality standards.
As a Quality Co-ordinator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective recording and tracking of patient data, monitoring the Trust's performance against all the national cancer audit and cancer services outcomes datasets (COSD). In addition, you will work with relevant staff to ensure there is active participation in all quality assurance and improvement processes. You will be expected to provide advice and support quality assured analysis against the key performance indicators associated with these mandated datasets. You will work alongside the Cancer Services Data Quality Officers to collate and validate patient data on the Somerset Cancer Registry (SCR) system and/or associated interfaces to ensure these systems hold correct and up-to-date patient data.
Main duties of the job
High-level administrative skills are required to monitor the mandatory participation in the NHS National Cancer Audit Programme. This entails extracting data to support the Trust's compliance against key performance indicators linked with the NHS Digital reporting processes. Validating and uploading data to the NHS Digital web-based portals will be a key component of this role. The post holder will be expected to implement new data collection processes, when and where applicable, across a multi-disciplinary environment to meet any dataset change requirements.
They must have a sound understanding of patient activity data as information must be accurately and consistently recorded to well-defined standards to enable it to be used for statistical analysis, both locally and nationally.
They will be guided by the principles and broad standard operating procedures in relation to data input, validation, and analysis but able to apply further local interpretation where required.
Job responsibilities
1. Work collaboratively to support an integrated approach to data quality performance management, within the cancer services department.
2. By triangulating data sources, challenge data collection methods and investigate data quality issues/concerns, resolving any issues through continuous improvement of all data collection processes.
3. Monitor the collection of clinical information using multiple data sources ranging from existing hospital systems, multi-disciplinary discussion documentation, and external hospital notifications and systems. This will involve acknowledging and adhering to set deadlines and validation methods to ensure accurate reporting.
4. Assist in the process of routinely validating the data held within the SCR system, working pro-actively with healthcare professionals, Cancer Pathway Navigators, and MDT/Pathway Co-ordinators to address and resolve data quality issues.
5. Assist in quality assurance reviews, including liaising with clinicians and other administrative and managerial staff to support quality reviews and provide feedback, where required, to relevant groups.
6. Support the development and implementation of an effective quality improvement framework to assist in the quality assessment process across all cancer tumour sites, including supporting the design, implementation, and collation of quality assessment processes throughout the year.
7. Support the quality manager and data quality team in delivering quality reviews through localized knowledge and intelligence of the operational environment in which services are delivered.
8. Maintain knowledge of national data quality requirements to assist in the delivery of projects.
9. Resolve issues efficiently to assist in the timely and accurate capture of data for use in financial, other corporate, and clinical initiative performance reporting.
10. Answer queries and assist in the production of requests, utilizing specific clinical knowledge of the data available while maintaining data protection standards in relation to all internal or external requests.
11. Produce and maintain detailed procedure/policy notes that represent the basic day-to-day tasks involved in completing the designated workload.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of data capture software for the collection and analysis of audit data. Experience of data collection, validation, and reporting. Ability to analyze data and interpret information into a format for presentation.
* Previous experience of working in the NHS. Knowledge of national cancer audit data set reporting requirements. Experience in the implementation of effective quality improvement frameworks and quality assessment processes. Experience in creating, managing, and sharing standard operating procedures (SOPs). Experience in developing patient surveys and analyzing the results.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics (Grades A-C). NVQ 4 in business administration/BTEC Business diploma or equivalent experience/qualification.
* Certificate/Diploma in Healthcare Informatics related subject.
Special Requirements
* Possess a sound working knowledge of data collection, validation, and reporting. Experience of data quality and data improvement related working. Computer literate with the ability to use a wide variety of data collection systems including Microsoft Office software. Ability to work independently but also be a good team worker. Able to demonstrate a responsible and mature approach to work and colleagues. Demonstrate ability to work to specific deadlines. Demonstrate the ability to identify problems and work with a team to solve and take appropriate action. Ability to organize and prioritize own workload. Special Skills and Knowledge
* Possess a comprehensive range of practical analytical skills. Understanding of NHS Data standards and their application to the management of patient data collection. Knowledge of audit obtained by formal training or acquired through work-based experience.
* Knowledge of national standards (Royal College guidance, NICE quality standards). Knowledge of national cancer audit data set reporting requirements.
