Temporary Switchboard Operator

Pay Rate: £15.70 per hour PAYE
Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, shift work
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 12 months

NPPV Level 2 Full – Valid for 3 years
NB: Police Vacancy - only for candidates with a minimum of 3 years continuous UK address history. This vacancy is subject to a strict security vetting procedure.
Shifts: 4 on 4 off - working till 10pm
Must be: Level 4/5 Welsh
Your role is to provide an efficient and effective switchboard service on behalf of the Police.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide a quality customer service to all members of the public.
2. Answer calls received at a centralised switchboard and by use of prescriptive questioning, filter calls and direct callers to the relevant department or person promptly and effectively. Where suitable, advise and resolve at the first point of contact.
3. Operate the switchboard fault reporting system in accordance with procedure and notify the supervisor if any action is necessary.
4. Support the Control Room Operations as and when required e.g. Major Incident situations.
5. Receive and transmit data and messages e.g. email and utilise Force Systems to resolve queries.
6. Be aware of Force policies on Equal Opportunities, Ground Rules, Health & Safety and Data Protection and to comply with the legislation and the standards of good practice.
7. Any other duties as directed by a Supervisory Officer commensurate with the post and salary grading.
8. As a secure Force Communications Centre (FCC), with no public access except by appointment, there is limited contact with the general public. However, there will be a requirement to cover reception duties.
Key Requirements:
1. NVQ level 2, or equivalent level of qualification, or an equivalent amount of proven relevant experience.
2. Good communication skills together with the ability to work well in a team environment or on their own initiative.
3. Ability to communicate fluently through the medium of Welsh and English.
4. The use of IT to a standard level together with knowledge of Microsoft packages.
