Job summary The Podiatric Surgery Service, based within the Northern General Hospital, is recruiting to the position of Staff Podiatrist in Podiatric Surgery. This post would be of interest to: a) Applicants wanting to develop their skills and experience as a Staff Podiatrist that are currently or have undertaken the Masters in theory of Podiatric surgery. b) Applicants seeking additional experience to support application towards a surgical training post. The Podiatric Surgery Service is part of the MSK Directorate within Sheffield Teaching Hospital undertaking both elective cases and supporting diabetic/vascular services in delivering appropriate surgical care whilst maintaining a high level of patient care. Andy Naismith, the Lead Consultant for the podiatric surgery service, is keen to ensure that this role will provide a supportive clinical environment to further support personal development while ensuring the operational stability of the unit and it is meeting its contractual targets. Support will be given to those wanting to develop professional and clinical practice. A good working understanding of PASCOM is desirable but not essential. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions. Main duties of the job The candidate will be expected to contribute to the provision of surgical cases within a Day Surgery Unit and Outpatient Care settings based at the Northern General Hospital to support the podiatric surgery service. The post will involve the efficient administration of regional anaesthetic following a patient's admission to the Day Surgery Unit working with the nursing team through to patient discharge. Theatre sessions will generally be Tuesday and Friday with Out-patient clinics spread across the whole week.
