About us
The Manufacturing and Materials business is looking for a dedicated Materials Engineer to work with us at our Global Technology Center (GTC).
We develop materials for new technology applications and design concepts, often in national and EU-funded research programs together with our customers. Our mission is to support GKN's growth by developing and implementing competitive technologies. The work within GTC includes the development of additive manufacturing, advanced materials, engine systems, products, digitization, manufacturing, and inspection methods. We work in project form, often in collaboration with industrial and academic partners as well as with our customers. GTC develops solutions to support all business areas, including Original Equipment manufacturing, space/military, civil repairs, and material solutions through additive manufacturing.
About the role
You are responsible for technology maturation and the optimization of material properties. This includes working on heat treatments, materials selection, coordinating test programs for physical properties, strength, fatigue, creep, etc., in collaboration with our mechanical test lab and external test providers. You analyze test results, document material data for lifetime calculations and manufacturing simulations, and develop test methods, data analysis methods, and our internal material database. You will interact in a cross-functional team and support manufacturing process maturation through material characterization, including destructive and non-destructive testing and advanced characterization methods.

* Participate in the development and implementation of new material technologies to support development programs
* Plan and perform material test evaluations
* Document and present results internally (in Technology Readiness Reviews) and externally with partners
* Collaborate with universities and research institutes in Sweden and Europe
* Communicate and present plans and results internally and externally

Job Qualifications / Skills / Experience
* MSc degree in material science or equivalent
* Knowledge of titanium and/or nickel-based superalloys
* Experience in material characterization and evaluation (SEM, metallography, fractography)
* Experience with material testing
* Experience working with universities on research projects and writing proposals
* Good social skills, ability to network, and technical responsibility
* Proficiency in Swedish and English
Desirable
* Experience in technology and/or product development
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes (additive manufacturing, welding, casting, forging, machining)
* Knowledge of post-processing (HIP, heat treatments, NDT)
* Proven project coordination experience
* Aerospace experience
