1-2 days onsite
The role holder will require knowledge and experience of naval and/or commercial ship outfit systems to support system and spatial integration issues with other disciplines.
Outfit includes the design or operation of:
1. Deck coverings, Coatings, Insulation & Linings
2. Doors, Hatches and Scuttles
3. Accommodation and Wet Spaces
4. Medical
5. Ship's Access & Escape (i.e. doors, hatches, ladders, etc.)
6. Evacuation & Lifesaving
7. Removal routes
8. Commissariat, Galley & Laundry
9. Offices, Stores (incl. refrigerated) & Workshops
10. Human Factors awareness
11. Damage Control & Portable Firefighting
12. Equipment Procurement Packs
13. Rule sets: Def. Standards, Lloyds, Naval Rules
14. Compartment and Product Safety
Key Responsibilities:
1. Update Windchill PLM with mature parts, systems, occurrences, and compartment data to ensure it correctly presents the baseline design.
2. Prepare technical equipment specifications and develop designs in line with all specifications and standards, coordinating with suppliers to ensure delivery to the agreed specification.
3. Produce Procurement Pack documentation.
4. Coordinate with systems engineers and detail designers on the integration of Outfit systems.
5. Support HAZIDs and Safety Reviews.
6. Support Design Reviews and Zonal Reviews.
7. Carry out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the design of improvements.
8. Liaise with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters.
9. Contribute to engineering team decisions to support the effective performance of the team.
10. Answer technical queries about own work within their level of knowledge and competency.
11. Undertake general business and other design and integration activities, in support of maturing the design, as directed by Line Management.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Degree qualified, likely to be in a Technology, Engineering or Science related discipline.
2. Working towards the requirements for registration as Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council.
3. Good experience in engineering or a defence related industry.
4. Possesses good knowledge of all aspects within current discipline.
5. Able to perform analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements.
6. Has sufficient capability to be able to make correct trade-off decisions.
7. Good experience in an Outfit Ship Design environment.
8. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to management and peers.
9. Displays flexibility through response to radical changes.
10. Strong understanding of Detail Design Requirements as an immediate customer in the Engineering Lifecycle.
11. Experience with CAD software like AutoCAD or FORAN is desirable.
