Job overview
This is an exciting time to join a newly established service for infants who spend time in the neonatal intensive care unit and their families. The postholder will work with a dedicated and brilliant multi-disciplinary team to shape, develop, deliver and evaluate what works for this client group in the context of exciting national investment in NICU services. The post is based across both Denmark Hill and Princess Royal University sites and there may be potential for a further 2 sessions (7.5 hours) in the near future.
Main duties of the job
These posts will contribute to the provision of high quality, psychologically-safe, trauma and neurodevelopmentally-informed service across the neonatal services at King's College Hospital. There is scope for innovative service development, individual and group work with families. You will be joining a receptive, flexible and committed multi-disciplinary staff group who value psychological and family approaches to support families who spend time on the NICU.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide a highly specialist psychological service within the NICU service at Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, including specialist screening, assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
1. To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
2. To provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, functioning as a lead specialist in the psychological aspects of the care and treatment of patients and their caring networks.
3. To undertake service evaluation, audit, research and policy development and to support the development of outcome data sets for children and families.
4. To work as an autonomous professional within BPS / ACP and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by principles, policies and procedures of the employing organisation (King’s College Hospital), and the NICU service, taking responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters.
5. To agree outcomes/results with clinical/professional lead and to decide how they are best achieved.
6. To contribute to the work of the child psychological services across children’s psychological services.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Professional Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology that has been accepted by the HCPC for purposes of professional registration.
* Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.
* Completed training course in clinical supervision.
* Additional training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma.
* Competence and/or specialist training in models of assessment and practice for infants and children with health conditions and their caring networks.
* Experience of working systemically in an acute health context.
* Evidence of having worked with people with medical conditions as a clinical specialist under supervision.
* Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams with colleagues from a range of disciplines.
* Experience of supervising assistant and trainee psychologists having completed the relevant training.
* Post-qualification experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities.
* Interest and/or experience in implementing service improvements.
* Experience of delivering assessments and interventions in both face to face and virtual formats.
* Experience of supervision of junior psychologists.
Experience
* Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological assessments and interventions including for those living with complex medical conditions.
* Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment.
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection, and equalities.
* Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care.
* Good working knowledge of models of paediatric and health psychology.
* Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and holding team roles.
