This job is for a UX Designer to join our product development team as the first dedicated design hire, owning both our medical device tablet application and clinician web platform. This position will have the following responsibilities:
Device App Design: Create user experiences and interface designs for our Android tablet application embedded in our robotic control device, specifically designed for patients with motor function challenges. This includes working on the our collection of Unity rehabilitation games.
Web Platform: Develop and contribute to the design of our clinician-focused web dashboard built in React, creating intuitive interfaces for monitoring patient behaviour and recovery journeys.
Design System: Be involved in the creation of our first design system to ensure consistency across all platforms, including component libraries, style guides, and design patterns that work for both patient and clinician users.
Research & Testing: Contribute to our user research initiatives and usability testing with stroke patients and clinicians to shape our product design based on real-world feedback and motor function capabilities.
Quality & Accessibility: Develop design standards that prioritize accessibility and ease of use, with particular focus on users with motor function limitations, while adhering to medical device regulatory standards.
Requirements
* Experience: 2+ years in UX design, working on web applications or mobile applications, with design system experience being useful
* Interested in Design Leadership: Willingness to learn how to become a leader in design by learning how to independently driving design decisions and establish design processes, with guidance
* Research Skills: Experience with user research methodologies and usability testing, particularly with users who have accessibility needs
* Technical Understanding: Experience working directly with a technical team, and a high-level understanding of how applications are developed
* Collaboration: Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams while being the sole design voice
Technical Skills
* Figma (primary design tool) or similar
* Any prototyping tools for both mobile and web interfaces
* Experience creating design systems from scratch
* User research and testing tools
* Strong understanding of accessibility guidelines (WCAG)
* Experience with design principles and mobile/web design
* Game UI/UX design experience is a plus
* Knowledge of medical device interface requirements is a plus
