Principal / Associate Transport Planner – Public Sector (Birmingham)

The role will provide flexibility to work across a range of different projects, although the focus will be supporting the development of our growing public sector facing team.
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or above with significant experience in Transport Planning in a public sector environment. They should have experience of delivering and project managing commissions with both public and private sector clients with only minimal supervision required. As a confident communicator verbally and in writing, they will be required to present and communicate their ideas clearly and concisely both internally and also to a wide range of external audiences. Chartership with a relevant professional body would be advantageous but not essential.
They will also have:
* Considerable experience in public sector facing transport planning and/or working in a public sector transport planning team
* Significant experience of a wide range of multi-modal transport projects
* Experience of public sector governance processes and working in a political environment
* Significant experience in the production of, and providing advice regarding, transport strategies and policies
* Experience of the development of business cases and funding bids, including knowledge of Government Business Case guidance including TAG
* Significant knowledge and experience of applying government policy and guidance to projects
* An understanding of the planning process in England
* Excellent communication skills and interface with clients including becoming trusted advisors
* Ability to train junior staff
* Ability to contribute / lead on bids and financial proposals
* Strong technical background with knowledge of industry specific modelling software
