The Role As the Quality Assurance Risk Lead, you will sit within the Safety Directorate, ensuring seamless integration of assurance activities across the Three Lines of Defence: First Line: Project Delivery Second Line: Safety, Security & Assurance Third Line: Independent Nuclear Assurance & Risk Management Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that audits, compliance reviews, and risk assessments actively enhance project execution while maintaining nuclear safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Assurance Integration & Risk-Based Planning Act as the key interface between Project Delivery, Internal Audit/IMS, and Independent Nuclear Assurance teams. Ensure assurance activities are effectively coordinated, minimising duplication and addressing project risks. Integrate risk-based assurance activities into project execution, prioritising high-risk areas. Align audit findings with risk registers and mitigation plans. Audit Execution & Compliance Management Develop and implement a risk-based audit schedule in line with project milestones. Conduct targeted audits and inspections to support quality and project interventions. Provide quality subject matter expertise during audits and inspections. Ensure audit findings and non-conformances are resolved within project workflows. Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and ensure lessons learned are applied across the project. Oversee corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to maintain compliance and continuous improvement. Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting Deliver regular reports to senior management on audit outcomes and risk trends. Support management reviews and decision-making with assurance insights. Develop dashboards and metrics to track audit progress and risk exposure. About You Essential Knowledge & Skills Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage at all levels. Proven ability to influence and drive behavioural change across an organisation. Expert knowledge of Quality Management Systems, including ISO 9001, ISO 19443, ISO 14001, and their interrelation with ISO 45001 and IAEA GSR-2/3. Strong understanding of ISO 19011:2015 (Guidelines for auditing management systems). Excellent presentation and communication skills, with experience engaging regulatory bodies. Experience leading and managing small teams within assurance or audit functions. Essential Qualifications & Experience Degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, Risk Management, or a related field. Extensive experience in internal audits, nuclear assurance, or quality/compliance management within complex infrastructure or nuclear projects. Strong understanding of the Three Lines of Defence model, risk-based assurance, and ISO management systems. Knowledge of nuclear regulatory frameworks, including ONR SAPs and IAEA GSR Part 2. Experience working within the UK regulatory environment. Proficiency in audit and risk management tools (e.g., Power BI, risk registers, audit tracking systems). Desirable Lead Auditor certification (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001). Technical knowledge of nuclear safety design and quality management. Experience engaging with regulators in a dynamic environment.
