The Government People Group exists to work with departments, professions, and functions to build a modern, effective Civil Service.
We support the government workforce with the right skills and capability. We are working with leaders to get the right people in the right jobs, with the right skills and continuous learning to excel in their roles.
We provide leadership, and in turn, create leaders with exceptional line management capability across departments, influencing partners in the wider public sector and beyond. This involves getting our retention and reward strategy right, to nurture specific skills, and create pride and resilience in our workforce.
Our role is also to provide system leadership across central government in pulling together back office services. Collectively, we help support the Cabinet Office’s priority to drive efficiencies, and reforms that will make government work better, to ultimately provide a better service to the public
The Fast Stream and Emerging Talent (FSET) team sits within Government Skills and is responsible for attracting and developing an effective pipeline of emerging talent; with the skills, knowledge, behaviours and networks needed to deliver on the Government's priorities and reflective of the people and places we serve. This includes delivery of a range of programmes including schools outreach, internships, Civil Service apprenticeships, Beyond Boundaries and the Civil Service Fast Stream.
This role sits within the Fast Stream On Scheme Delivery team of FSET and is pivotal in the delivery of the Fast Stream. The FS Delivery Lead will manage a team of FS Delivery managers and will be the escalation route for 2,000+ Fast Streamers across multiple departments and Fast Stream schemes.
The Fast Stream Delivery Lead (FSDL) manages a team of Delivery managers who act as a point of contact for a range of stakeholders from fast streamers to department and profession stakeholders. As FSDL, you will ensure that your team are supported to respond to queries in an appropriate and timely manner, acting as an escalation point for complex cases.
You will work with the On-Scheme Delivery (OSD) SLT to ensure the delivery of the Fast Stream remains of a high standard and meets the expectations of our customers and participants. In collaboration with SLT, you will ensure that any new policies and processes are communicated and implemented in an efficient way, using digital and AI tools where appropriate.
The operational delivery of the Fast Stream is continually improving and the FSDLs are integral in identifying ways to make savings or to better processes. If successful, you will join a dedicated team in OSD, and wider FSET, that is constantly striving to deliver one of the best graduate programmes in the country.
Role responsibilities
You will lead a team of SEOs focused on building engagement with Activity Managers and Fast Stream participants, demonstrating our expertise in emerging talent interventions.
Play a leading role in developing our interactions with Activity Managers around Fast Stream policies and processes in group workshops and via the Activity Manager Hub.
You will lead your team to coach and support Fast Stream participants, maintaining the ethos of the programme, whilst providing adequate level of support for their circumstances.
You will empower your team to be creative and to adopt a continuous improvement approach, grounded in evidence.
You will retain oversight of complex Fast Stream casework, acting as an escalation route where needed, empowering departmental Activity Managers (up to and including Deputy Director level) and departments to deliver the majority of line and performance management duties, to streamline the Fast Streamer experience.
You will use the Workday and query response systems to oversee queries from Fast Streamers and Activity Manager, supporting FSDMs to provide accurate and timely responses.
As part of the FSET Wider Leadership Team, you will collaborate on the refinement and delivery of a refreshed FSET Delivery.
