GB Railfreight are seeking a driven Project Engineer to take on the role of assisting with ERTMS Vehicle / Infrastructure Compatibility Process that meets our obligations under ROGS 2006, as amended, and pertinent Rail Industry Standards. The role involves supporting the business through the development of systems and processes to identify projects, compiling a robust scope, liaising with internal and external stakeholders and holding stakeholders to tight timescales to deliver against business needs and objectives. Building relationships, communication and time management are key for success in this role.
This role will play a vital part in the delivery of ETCS fitted locomotive fleets providing a key link between the design houses and the business to ensure that GBRf stay compliant with vehicle / infrastructure compatibility and is evidenced throughout every stage of the project. The role also offers the opportunity to develop and support other strands of internal engineering change processes ensuring our continued compliance to ROGS 2006, as amended, and supporting ECM certification requirements.

* Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships to ensure compatibility projects are sufficiently scoped to meet the customer needs against the required timescales.
* Build and maintain key relationships within key Infrastructure Managers e.g. Network Rail, Siemens, and Fitment partners.
* Assist the business with integrating ETCS into current processes and procedures as part of the Put into Use process ensuring HAZid’s are identified by acting as an ETCS specialist.
* Attending locomotive surveys across the UK to support Design Houses.
* Oversee First In Class and fleet fitments as required.
* Assisting in the design scrutiny of First-in-Class (FiC) designs which will include detailed analysis of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic diagrams, testing procedures ensuring safety compliance and successful system integration.
* Liaise with Internal Engineering and Production departments to assist with the review of ETCS technical documentation to meet contractual timeframes.
* Assist the business with ERTMS assurance activities. Such as but not limited to SOCAT, APIS, PIU, Engineering change and Safety Management System.
* Any other activities as requested by your Line Managers.
Skills & Experience
* Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office Applications.
* Strong interpersonal skills. Effective Communicator at all levels.
* Detailed knowledge of Diesel and Electric locomotive systems and maintenance.
* A broad but detailed understanding of Mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
* Experience of Engineering Change processes and VMI’s.
* Flexible and willing to travel, some travel will involve overnight stays.
* Clean UK driving licence.
* Experience of managing Compatibility projects and understanding of RIS-8270-RST (desirable).
* Previous relationships within Infrastructure Managers e.g. Network Rail (desirable).
