What's involved with this role: Interim Head of Assurance Reference no: Tameside 0009 DE24 / 1 Pay Rate: up to £40.06 per hour PAYE max 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours This opening assignment is for 2 months City: Ashton Under Lyne Standard DBS disclosure Hybrid In this role, you’ll lead the Council’s assurance function—covering risk management, internal audit, counter fraud, and information governance—providing vital oversight to strengthen governance, manage risk, and support the achievement of strategic and operational objectives. Key duties: Lead the delivery of a high-performing, respected assurance function across internal audit, risk, counter fraud, and information governance, aiming for best-in-class standards. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, providing visible leadership and trusted advice to officers and elected members. Oversee the Council’s risk management, insurance, and information governance frameworks, ensuring they align with the broader assurance strategy. Direct the Council’s internal audit and counter fraud services, including audit planning for the Council and the Greater Manchester Pension Fund, and ensuring effective investigation of fraud and corruption. Ensure assurance activities meet professional standards and are clearly reported to governance bodies including SLT, Cabinet, Audit Panel, and the Pension Board. Key requirements: CCAB qualified (CIPFA, ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA, MIIA) Must understand internal audit Extensive post qualification experience leading / managing an assurance function (internal audit / risk / insurance) Public sector experience.
