Salary: £30,000 - £46,000 (Depending on experience) + TLR for leadership responsibilities

The Role:
As the 2nd in Department for English, you will play a key role in supporting the Head of English in the leadership and management of the department. You will be responsible for driving up standards of teaching and learning, helping to ensure that the department delivers an engaging and challenging curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
Key Responsibilities include:
* Teaching English to Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach A-Level depending on experience and qualifications.
* Supporting the Head of Department in the day-to-day running of the English department, including curriculum planning, resource management, and data analysis.
* Leading on areas of curriculum development, including literacy initiatives and promoting the love of reading across the school.
* Mentoring and supporting Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and less experienced members of the department, helping them develop their teaching practice.
* Monitoring and assessing student progress, ensuring that teaching is informed by robust data analysis and that students are challenged to achieve their full potential.
* Contributing to the wider life of the school, including involvement in extra-curricular activities such as debate clubs, writing workshops, and school events.
* Helping to foster a culture of high expectations, where both staff and students strive for excellence in all they do.
What We’re Looking For:
The successful candidate will:
* Be an experienced English Teacher with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a proven track record of success at Key Stages 3 and 4. Experience at Key Stage 5 is desirable but not essential.
* Have the leadership skills and ambition to take on additional responsibilities as 2nd in Department, supporting the Head of English and contributing to departmental improvement.
* Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge, with the ability to teach English literature and language in an engaging and inspiring way.
* Have strong classroom management skills, with a commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and stimulating learning environment.
* Be passionate about curriculum development and eager to contribute to the department’s drive for innovation and excellence in teaching and learning.
* Be dedicated to student progress, ensuring all students achieve their best, and prepared to engage in the use of data to track and support student outcomes.
* Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within and beyond the department.
