We are looking for a Science Technician to join our staff team at Stoke Damerel Community College and Scott Medical and Healthcare College Campus.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the campus and further contribute to the life chances of young people in the school and across the Trust. The Science Technician will coordinate the use of practical resources and facilities and provide assistance and advice in meeting the practical needs of the science curriculum, including liaising with teaching staff and support staff outside the department. The successful candidate should be approachable, well organised and understand health & safety requirements working within a laboratory and with chemicals. Main responsibilities:
* Repair, maintain and store equipment in order to guarantee safe and effective upkeep
* Maintaining Science classrooms to ensure a clean, safe and orderly environment
* To support the lead technician to co-ordinate the day-to-day organisation and development of resources across biology, chemistry and physics for all key stages
* To contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources and/or long-term projects
* To ensure the availability of suitable materials and equipment, helping to compile orders and liaising or negotiating with suppliers and finance departments. This will include sourcing, costing and suggesting economic alternatives to maintain stock levels. Keeping accurate up-to-date stock records
* To ensure that both routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard
* Servicing, testing, routine maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment
* Preparing equipment of laboratory classes in accordance with given instructions
* Provide advice and guidance to staff and students on basic technical issues
* Checking materials and equipment before and after use by a class for quantity and damage
* Cleaning of glassware and other equipment
* Support students in the classroom environment to assist in the learning process where appropriate
* To participate in a programme of CPD
* To attend relevant wider school and Trust based training sessions
* To actively contribute to the performance management and appraisal process
You will need:
* Educated to at least GCSE grade C standard (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
* GCSE in Science
* An understanding of the Science Technician duties and responsibilities
* Experience of working as a laboratory technician
