Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board are looking for a Dynamic and Compassionate Senior Nurse Band 8a to lead our Acute Children & Young Peoples Services in the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.
The post holder will work within the Children & Families Care Group and is expected to work with autonomy to provide highly specialised professional advice to staff and colleagues for both Children's wards and the Children's Outpatient department in the Princess Of Wales Hospital to ensure high standards of direct care delivery. This includes interpreting and implementing national policy and supporting systems for professional revalidation and performance management of ward managers that are accountable for quality and safe care.
The post holder will work collaboratively with other Senior Nurses within the Care Group and adopt a visible and accessible approach for the children/young people, their families/carers and staff. They will be expected to lead by example, empower staff in their personal and professional development, modernize care delivery whilst upholding Cwm Taf Morgannwg's values and behaviours.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
1. Responsible for professional leadership, management, governance of the children's wards and children's out-patient services at the Princess of Wales Hospital within Cwm Taf Morgannwg.
2. Provide leadership, direction and development of registered nurses and allied healthcare professional staff.
3. Support the Senior Nursing Teams and Service Manager to ensure the highest standard of nursing care is provided, monitored, and evaluated within the areas of responsibility.
4. Interpret national and health board policies and procedures and advise on the implementation of these for their area of responsibility.
5. Be guided by professional, organisational policies and codes of conduct and is responsible for their implementation for their area.
6. Support processes and audits to monitor the quality of care, clinical practices, incidents/claims, and professional registration.
7. Undertake investigations of clinical incidents, complaints and professional issues following University Health Board Policy and acting upon findings/recommendations.
8. Part of a Senior Manager on-call rota, and will be expected to be part of an on-call roster, covering an identified shift in line with the current agreed on-call process.
9. Responsible for ensuring that their teams continually deliver improvements to patient services aligned to the principles of Values Based Healthcare.

Job responsibilities
1. Overall responsibility and accountability for the operational management and governance of their area of responsibility ensuring effective and efficient use of resources.
2. Delegated budgetary responsibility for nursing and allied healthcare professional services within the sphere of responsibility.
3. Undertake financial assessments of new developments or changes in service provision and monitoring of benefits within the sphere of responsibility.
4. Support complex sickness and absence issues and provide formal counselling to individual staff members and respect the confidentiality of all members of staff.
5. Support the Lead Nurses, Heads of Nursing & Midwifery in the investigation of clinical incidents, critical incidents, complaints and claims.
6. Develop systems, processes and audits to monitor the quality of care.
7. Conduct regular staff appraisals identifying training needs and personal development plans, setting objectives and monitoring performance in accordance with organisational objectives, professional standards and Knowledge Skills Framework competencies.
8. Maximise the performance of all staff within delegated areas ensuring effective structures for the supervision and direction of work.
9. Responsible for all aspects of the fundamentals of care, identifying risks, developing proposals for corrective action and improvement, monitoring, and evaluating implementation.
10. Responsible for Child Protection/Adults at Risk Protection the service.
11. Provide clinical expertise to the multi-disciplinary team, particularly with regard to complex case management and Continuing Healthcare cases.
12. Provide specialist information to the Heads of Nursing and Midwifery and to other colleagues across the organisation and partner agencies.
13. Monitor and evaluate the implementation of infection control policies, procedures, and best practices in line with National Standards.
14. Participate in service/workforce development within the specialty area.
15. Responsible for the creation and delivery/procurement/commissioning of generic training modules relevant to the service.
16. Responsible for maintaining own continuous professional development and professional registration.
17. Verify the accuracy of information/statistics generated/provided by ward staff and support them in the preparation and collation of information and reports.
Person Specification
Qualifications / Knowledge
* Registered Children's Nurse holding a current NMC registration with previous experience of working at band 7 or above.
* Degree or equivalent skills, knowledge and/or training and experience within field of practice.
* Research Module.
Experience
* Significant relevant clinical experience at Band 7 or equivalent or above in field of practice.
* Substantial post-registration experience including clinical leadership, and team management and have a reputation for professional innovation and excellence.
* Experience working within health and social service systems, both at local and strategic levels.
Aptitude and Abilities
* Demonstrate effective communication skills - verbal and written (report writing).
* A clear vision for best practice and positive management of change.
* Evidence of quality improvement skills.
