Job Title: Building Regulations Principal Designer
Location: Worcester
Job Purpose
The Principal Designer ensures compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) and plays a pivotal role in managing design-related health and safety risks throughout a project's lifecycle. This role focuses on coordinating building regulations compliance while working closely with design teams, contractors, and clients to ensure that projects meet statutory requirements and are delivered safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
* CDM 2015 Compliance:
o Act as the appointed Principal Designer under CDM 2015.
o Ensure health and safety risks are identified, managed, and communicated during the pre-construction and construction phases.
o Coordinate and review the preparation of pre-construction information (PCI) for projects.
* Building Regulations Compliance:
o Provide advice to ensure all designs adhere to current building regulations and relevant statutory requirements.
o Work with architects, engineers, and other professionals to deliver compliant and buildable designs.
o Liaise with building control officers to manage regulatory approvals.
o Promote safe design principles to ensure risks are mitigated at the design stage.
o Undertake risk reviews and provide practical recommendations.
* Collaboration and Coordination:
o Act as the key point of contact for health and safety matters related to design.
o Coordinate with project teams, including contractors, consultants, and stakeholders, ensuring effective communication of health and safety information.
o Organize and lead design risk workshops to identify and address potential issues.
* Documentation:
o Maintain accurate project records, including design risk assessments and compliance documents.
o Contribute to the preparation of the health and safety file for completed projects.
* Training and Support:
o Provide guidance to clients and project teams on their duties under CDM 2015.
o Support the development of internal processes to enhance compliance and safety management.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Qualifications:
o Relevant degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
o Membership in a recognized professional body (e.g., RIBA, ICE, IOSH) is preferred.
o NEBOSH or similar health and safety qualifications are an advantage.
* Experience:
o Extensive knowledge of CDM 2015 and building regulations.
o Proven track record as a Principal Designer or in a similar role.
o Experience managing design teams and coordinating complex projects.
* Technical Skills:
o Proficient in reviewing technical drawings and specifications.
o Strong understanding of construction processes and health and safety management.
o Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD and Revit is desirable.
* Key Attributes:
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
o Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
