Senior Flood Risk Consultant
Build Maintain Recruit Limited has partnered with an award-winning consultancy in finding a Senior Flood Risk Consultant to join their team in Exeter. A Senior Flood Risk Consultant is required to lead and deliver multiple flood risk and drainage projects, working independently while managing client relationships and overseeing project financials. This role involves coordinating inputs from multidisciplinary teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outputs, and mentoring junior staff.
The Senior Flood Risk Consultant will also provide technical support to senior management and contribute to the team’s overall success.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage flood risk and drainage projects as a Senior Flood Risk Consultant, ensuring they are delivered on time and to agreed specifications.
2. Manage client relationships, including negotiations with LLFA authorities and public consultations.
3. Oversee the financial performance of projects, including proposals, invoicing, and ensuring projects are financially viable.
4. Coordinate input from other teams as needed, ensuring seamless project delivery.
5. Maintain quality assurance to ensure flood risk and drainage work meets industry best practices.
6. Mentor and support junior staff, managing workload priorities and providing day-to-day guidance.
7. Contribute to team success by inputting to resource planning, training, and quality management.
8. Provide technical support to senior management, helping manage complex or sensitive project tasks.
Job Grade: Principal/Associate Engineer; depending on experience.
Requirements:
1. A 2:1 in Civil Engineering or a relevant subject.
2. Professional qualification or progress towards qualification (e.g., IEng, CEng through ICE or CIWEM).
3. 7-10 years' experience in flood risk and drainage design, ideally within the private sector, with a focus on client care and project management.
4. Proven experience in leading tasks such as site appraisals, Flood Risk Assessments, drainage strategies, and detailed drainage designs.
5. Strong organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
6. Ability to work independently, managing multiple projects simultaneously with limited support.
7. Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project financials.
8. Knowledge of the NPPF and planning system.
9. Familiarity with flood risk and drainage design guidance (e.g., CIRIA).
10. Proficiency in key software, including Microdrainage and FLOW, with experience in reviewing CAD work.
11. Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
12. Desirable: Experience in contributing to appeal work and knowledge of the appeal process.
13. Business development experience.
