About the Role:
Work with the Works Manager and oversee the Growing team reporting into the Growing Consultant and Operations Director ensuring its people and equipment contribute to the safe, efficient and effective running of the site and supervising the growing of products to production plans, ensuring growing houses are filled and products are grown for our customers on time to fulfill service orders in line with food safety and customer quality requirements.
Responsibilities:
1. Working with the Operations team to ensure all houses are filled, transferred, and emptied as per KPIs.
2. Train new members of the team on disease control and elimination.
3. Attend daily farm walks with other departments.
4. Attend weekly planning meetings with the Growing Consultant.
5. Ensure that all growing operations are completed on time.
6. Work with your team to achieve the best yield potential.
7. Implement climate control and fertigation strategies.
8. Conduct all crop husbandry work.
9. Crop walking and scouting for pests and diseases.
10. Enforce & promote excellent health & safety practices.
11. Ensure all completed work is safe and hygienic and complies with FSA and health and safety legislation.
12. Ensure GMP (good manufacturing practices) and housekeeping (clean as you go) are strictly adhered to.
13. Drive own personal development through training and work-based experience.
14. Help harvesting supervisors during busy times.
15. Report on KPI figures during monthly meetings.
16. Any other duties that may be required.
Skills & Experience:
1. A background in agriculture; a degree in agriculture or horticulture is preferred.
2. Excellent management skills.
3. Excellent communication skills.
4. Food hygiene qualification.
5. Driven and motivated with a positive attitude to work colleagues.
6. Experience of working in a busy growing area.
7. Excellent listening, communicating, negotiating, and influencing skills.
8. Excellent organization skills.
9. Numerate and literate.
10. Supervising people/projects.
11. Ability to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
12. Strong organizational skills, able to plan and structure work effectively in a demanding environment.
13. Sound IT skills to include MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
14. A strong desire to learn and develop within an agricultural environment.
15. A can-do attitude and a strong work ethic.
16. Recognize the importance of providing an excellent level of customer service and work as required, achieving the necessary results.
